IRF Research Programme: Physics in Space
RESEARCH WITH SPACE RADIO AND RADARS

Using a combination of modern plasma physics, electrodynamics and quantum optics concepts we study

  • Dynamical processes and structure formation in space plasma, in particular those associated with the ionospheric Stimulated Electromagnetic Emission (SEE) phenomenon discovered by us
  • Turbulence and turbulent layers in space and the upper atmosphere
  • Identification of anthropogenic turbulence effects in the ionosphere due to electromagnetic radiation
  • Generic electromagnetic wave-based physics in space, including modelling of space dynamics based on fundamental physical laws
  • Development of new techniques and facilities for advanced radiometric studies of geospace such as the giant LOFAR/LOIS software radio observatory
